FREIGHTCLASS

About

A small, free tool built by someone who got tired of doing this arithmetic on the back of a bill of lading.

What this site is

A freight class calculator that works out density from the dimensions and weight of a shipment and shows which class band that density falls into. It runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and there is no account to create.

Why it exists

Most freight class calculators handle one pallet, give you a number, and stop there. Real shipments often involve several different pallets on one bill of lading, and the number that matters is the combined density, not the average of the individual ones. This tool handles that.

It also flags a case the others ignore: shipments whose density sits close enough to a band edge that an inch of measuring error would change the class. That is where reclass fees come from, and knowing about it before you book is worth more than the class number itself.

What it cannot tell you

Density gives you the band. It does not account for commodities that carry a fixed class regardless of density, for hazardous materials, or for the specific NMFC listing that applies to your product. This site does not reproduce or distribute NMFC listing data. Your carrier or broker is the authority on final classification, and you should confirm with them before booking.

How it is funded

Advertising, and referral arrangements with freight providers where they exist. Those are disclosed on the pages where they appear. Advertising never changes the calculation.
